Having someone pamper you, do your hair and makeup, wearing pretty dresses, and getting pictures taken of you; can you ask for a better Valentine’s Day?
A couple months ago, I did a collaborative shoot with a couple of boutique Toronto companies. Tiffany, my partner in crime with whom I run a Toronto lifestyle blog called Zencity, modelled by my side during this shoot.
The feel of this shoot was soft and romantic, so we had to be sure that everything worked together to make it look pretty and effortless. Our makeup artist was Jennifer Oh (Hey Jolie) who has my dream makeup collection! She started off by applying a soft, matte makeup base with rosy cheeks and pink lips. To bring out our eyes, she did an amazing winged liner with whispy fake lashes; at first they felt really odd, but I got used to them, and they looked great in the pictures!
Our hair stylist was Hannah Yoo (Hair by Hannah Yoo) who managed to just look at a picture of a hairstyle and recreate it perfectly! For Tiffany, she went for a beautiful crown braid, and for myself she created a soft updo and added a flower in it from DeLight Floral + Design to tie the whole look together.
After all of this, we chose the dresses that we felt went with the looks the best. Tiffany wore the Janna dress, which is a beautiful cupcake shaped wedding dress with a sweetheart neckline and tulle skirt. It was easy to move in and very feminine, which went with the feel of the shoot.
I chose to wear the Adelaide dress which has a deep sweetheart neckline and an embelished waist. I usually don’t like strapless dresses because I have to keep on pulling it up, but what I love about these dresses is that there’s boning in the bodice as well as a secure bra hook on the inside to keep the dress from slipping.
The final step was to choose jewellery from Shop for Jayu! Since Tiffany’s look was pretty simple, we chose a set of gold and pearl earrings and necklace to add some interest to the look. For myself, we stuck with just a pair of earrings to avoid anything clashing against the belt and flower
For the second look we went for something a little bolder. For makeup, Jennifer built onto the original eye makeup to give it a smokier look, then went for bold lips. Tiffany got a gorgeous fuschia lip, and I got a bright apple red lip.Tiffany’s hair was kept in a crown and the flower was removed from my updo.
Since we changed the makeup, we also changed our dresses. Tiffany picked the Joycelyn which is a gorgeous one shouldered dress with a sequin belt. The grecian feel of this dress went perfectly with Tiffany’s hair and the lip colour complemented the gold in the dress.
My look had more of a retro feel to it, so I wore the Laci dress which, as you might have guessed, has a lace skirt. This is a great option for people who want something fitting and comfortable; plus it has straps which some people might prefer.
For these looks, Tiffany and I both went for statement earrings that were still wearable and went well with the outfits.
We had a great time shooting with Denny, he guided us perfectly and made us feel very comfortable!
