There are a million different makeup products and hundreds of brands out there in the market. It can be extremely overwhelming figuring out which products can stand up to the task and be worn on your wedding day. But fear not, at Pastel Dress Party, we've curated a list of pretty much everything you could ever need. So whether you are doing your makeup on your own or searching for a professional you can trust that everything below is the best. So, let's dive into the best bridal makeup products for summer weddings!
These makeup products have raving reviews across the board and many have been personally tested by me (issue makeup junkie alert). Also, good news for brides who are looking for natural makeup products, we've included many natural beauty brands! The makeup products here can be used to create hundreds of different looks from natural to all out glamorous and dramatic.
Primer and Setting Spray
I think a good place to start this bridal makeup journey is with primer and setting spray. These two products will ensure that your makeup lasts through the ceremony and well into the reception with minimal touch-ups. Depending on your skin type or the effect you want you will want to change up how you combine primers and setting sprays.
One of the best primers out there right now is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer; this product is perfect for brides because it gives the skin a beautiful diffused glow and smooths over any fine lines, pores, and other issues. But, if you tend to get super oily on long, hot days your best bet is the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer because it keeps the skin matte and extends the longevity of your foundation and everything you use on top. It's also formulated specifically for photography so you know you will look #flawless in your wedding pictures and video.
Adding setting spray at the end will, well as it says, set your makeup so it's absolutely budge proof. I love both the Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray and the NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray.
Both of these extend the life of your makeup and are a must for hot summer weddings!
Foundation is arguable the most important bridal makeup product. Even if you don't wear foundation everyday (or ever), it's worth considering for your wedding day because flash photography isn't a friend to any of us!
For brides, the best foundation is something with a natural or dewy finish that does not become cake-y and is long lasting. One the most raved about bridal makeup products is the Dior Diorskin Airflash Spray Foundation; it gives the skin a perfect, airbrush finish that manages to look natural and has a decent colour selection.
For brides looking to achieve a glowing complexion, Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk Foundation maybe be a perfect fit. The shade range is wonderful and the product provides medium coverage for a very natural look that photographs beautifully.
Lastly, if you have sensitive skin, it may be time to try mineral makeup. Bare Minerals' Original Foundation is a cult classic for good reason; this makeup product has buildable coverage, never looks caked on, and has built in SPF for outdoor weddings.
Concealer is definitely the workhorse of any makeup kit. Pick a product with a formula that does double-duty by covering imperfections and highlighting to give dimension to your face.
If you are looking for an affordable option, the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer is a great pick because it hides dark circles with a light texture that doesn't look cake-y. Another cult classic, the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer comes in a wide colour range and has high coverage to make any unwanted guests disappear. And to give your skin a gorgeous glow, try YSL's Touche Eclat for radiance that knows no bounds.
Setting powder is a must for making makeup last through a hot summer wedding. The key is to find a powder you can use throughout the day to touch up and banish shine without looking heavy and cake-y. Besame and Laura Mercier make great powders for setting and brightening the under eye area. White RMS Beauty (a natural brand) and Make Up For Ever do lovely powders for all over the face.
Ah, contouring. While some consider contouring to look harsh, it is worth considering on your wedding day because photography tends to wash out our facial features and can make us appear flat. Used subtly, contouring can add that extra something to your makeup look that will make it special for your wedding day. Some of the best contouring makeup products on the market are from Anastasia Beverly Hills (a powder product), Alima Pure (a natural, mineral product), and Laura Mercier (a cream product).
For brides with normal to oily skin types, powder or mineral products are better because they will stay put throughout the day. Brides with dry skin, or those looking for the most natural effect, should look to cream products to get the best look.
To achieve that "blushing bride" look, look no further than these blushes. If there are two makeup products that you should use on your wedding, they are: blush and mascara. I wear blush religiously regardless of any other makeup because it makes me look wide awake and healthy. If you are looking for a matte powder blush try out Tarte's Amazonian Clay blush and Alima's Satin Matte blush (a great natural makeup product). For a creamy blush that stays put and gives the skin a gorgeous dewy glow try out Stila's Convertible Color blush. And for a blush that goes above and beyond try out a luxurious option from Hourglass Cosmetics; this makeup product has the dewy, glowly effect of a cream but in powder form.
Highlighter / Strobing
Strobing has been a huge makeup trend over the last few months and these are some of the best makeup products to achieve a highlighted look for your wedding day.
Let's start with the creams and liquids: these can be worn under makeup for a subtle glow or layered on top. A few standout products are RMS's Living Luminizer (all natural!) and Becca's Shimmering Skin Perfector. You can also achieve a wow-worthy highlight with powder products. The Balm Cosmetics has a stunning highlighter called Mary Lou-Manizer. And for an all-over glow you can rely on Hourglass to create the perfect highlighter which is never overpowering.
Another obsession of mine, after blush, is lipstick! I love collecting different colours and finishes. And if you are anything like me, then, choosing your wedding lippy is going to be tough! I don't think I would be able to pick a colour, but I have picked out a few of my favorite formulas that are perfect for brides.
Starting with the natural option, Ilia makes lovely lipsticks that are fairly long lasting and come in many different shades; my favorite shade is Tunnel of Love. MAC is always a good option for lipstick since they have a huge range of shades and finishes like matte, satin, creamy, etc. My pick from MAC for brides would be Peach Blossom! For a bridal lipstick that could later turn into a keepsake try a luxury lippy like Chanel or Yves Saint Laurent.
Eyes are the windows to the soul, so treat yours right on your wedding day with soft neutrals that bring out your natural beauty. If you are going to be buying a new palette for the wedding, try the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette; it has a mix of shimmery and matte shades with a great balance between warm and cool tones and a few dark colours as well. Or for a more luxury option, try out Charlotte Tilbury's eyeshadow quad. Both of these makeup products can be used to create many beautiful, classic looks that will stand the test of time.
Are you new to eyebrows? I am! I've never really felt the need to fill in my brows, but I have noticed that filling them in, even lightly, can make a big difference in photographs. Check out Ecobrow (a natural makeup product) and Anastasia Beverly Hills (a cult classic).
Define those eyes with some liquid liner! Doing even a thin line across your lashes can make them look fuller and makes the eyes appear larger. Some of my favourite liner pens are from Kat Von D, Bobbi Brown, and Stila.
I mentioned mascara earlier as one of the two things you should definitely use to create the biggest difference! Mascara is one of those beauty products that is hard to get right because of personal preferences. I prefer big, voluminous, long lashes so if you are interested in those try out Tarte Light Camera Lashes, Maybelline Lash Sensational, and Ilia's Mascara in Nightfall. For a more dramatic look and to add length try false lashes; one of the best ones out there, that create a natural look, are Ardell's Demi Wispies.
And that concludes my roundup of the best makeup products for summer weddings. Do you already use some of these? Tell us in the comments.
