Weddings can range from a small ceremony in a local park to an extravagant black tie affair in a grandiose ballroom. So attending one comes with a myriad of potential complications, but the major one? Gift giving! However, depending on the kind of wedding you're attending, should you spend a certain amount of money on the gift?
We offer a few tips for gift-giving here:
Stick with their wedding registry. It's always a safe bet to buy something off the couple's wedding registry if they have one. This is a clear guide to exactly what they want, need, and what they'll be happy with.
Don't go over your budget! The assumption is that if you are invited to the wedding the couple knows you on one level or another, therefore they should understand your financial status and their expectations of a gift should reflect that.
When in doubt, make it personal! Definitely don't spend more than you are comfortable with or can actually afford! If a majority of the items on their registry are out of your budget, a thoughtful sentimental gift can be easily affordable and just as great. Personalized engraved trinkets with the couple's wedding date is a gracious gift to give to the happy couple.
Attending a wedding can cost a lot for the guest, from the dress you decide to wear and the preparations! Just because the wedding may take place in a flamboyant setting doesn't mean you should feel pressured into spending an outrageous amount on a gift.
Regardless of what you buy, rest assured that the couple will be happy you attended and were able to witness and be a part of the start of their new lives together!
