Wedding gown shopping is one of the most important tasks on a bride's to-do list. But just because it can be a bit of a stressful time shopping for it, don't underestimate the importance of your wedding gown. When shopping for your dress, just remember that it should reflect your personality, your wedding style and the type of venue you have! A question that will maybe help you is the following, "Is this dress a good fit for my type of wedding?"
Here's what you need to consider when wedding gown shopping:
Consider: Think about your aisle. Will there be a runner? If you're planning to walk down the grassy path, pay special attention to your gown length. One option could be to select a gown that skims the ground or get it altered. This is great because you are not going to get green stains along the hemline or lay down a runner. Also consider accenting your gown with season key elements like, floral embroideries and floral accessories, hairpins, brooches, natural flower crowns and so on.
What can you avoid: High heels. If your aisle is grass, you are going to sink with high heels. Also, do not trust the high heels protectors for grass because it will only work when the grass is 100% dry. Also avoid shoes that are too shiny or glittery they may look a little out of place if your setting is natural.
Consider: If you're planning to have your ceremony out in the beach you'll want to consider breathable fabrics. You'll want to consider fabrics such as chiffon, silk and charmeuse as well as shapes that will help you keep cool. Make sure your fabrics are natural and breathable. For your shoes an absolute most are open sandals, unless you create a firm walkway over the sand.
Avoid: If your aisle is sand, stay away from grown with heavy trains, so you don't carve a wave as you walk down the aisle.
For a chic city wedding, all options are open; from princess ball gowns to sleek, svelte, short, sassy mini dresses
. But consider your particular city venue when making the selection. Furthermore, you may want to go more glam for a big hotel affair or more modern for a clean lined wedding.
Avoid: If you're taking a cab to and from your location, make sure your gown will fit inside. Consider the weather and your shoes for long distances.
Even if you'll be shuttling directly from a heated limo to your event location
, you're to get chilly if you do not have the proper cover. Your dress itself can still be strapless or skin-baring, but you'll want to have something beautiful to throw over your shoulders. Consider a fashionable cover-up
, lace jacket, cashmere shrug or a fur jacket. Many designers are creating them to match the gown. This will give you pictures a personal touch.
Avoid: Anything not properly lined. Do not skimp on undergarments if you're cold, your guests will know. Also stay away from light materials such as linen or crepe in favor of more heavy silk taffeta, brocade or velvet accents.
