Well ladies, we hear so much of the term "little black dress", but what is it that makes a black dress our closet staple?? Let's learn about the history and the current trend!
The iconic little black dress hasn't always been the go to dress in every woman's closet. Before the 1920s the only time women wore black dresses was when they were in periods of mourning. Not until Coco Chanel featured a black dress on the cover of Vogue magazine, it was actually considered indecent to wear a black dress outside the stage of mourning.
Today the "LBD" is repeatedly every women's go to dress season after season. There's something about a black dress that makes it so easy to wear. Considering black is always flattering on all women, it is super easy to dress up or dress down. I never feel like I'm repeating my dress because there are so many ways to transform your LBD dress to fit any occasion.
With so many styles to choose from, sometimes it's hard to find the right dress. I recommend trying on a bunch of styles and choosing the dress that you feel most comfortable in! From here it gets super fun since there are so many ways to wear your LBD.
Last year we published this post with the following LBD suggestions:
- Wearing colourful shoes that match with a handbag
- Adding a white blazer on top for a cute daytime look
- Pair it with ankle booties for an edgy look
- Make it more feminine and elegant with a pear necklace
- Add a statement necklace to turn heads
We want to give you more options that are very popular right now!
1. Backless LBD with gladiator sandals
We love this look because it's very simple but still interesting because of the cutout in the back, the strappy sandals, and the dainty rings.
2. Flowy LBD for a romantic look
This dress is great for summer because it's light and the shape is flattering on many silhouettes. Maegan makes this look super romantic by wearing cute open toed heels and styling her hair with loose waves.
3. Lace LBD with a white clutch and belt
Jessica did a great job of accessorizing this lace dress by adding a black belt to accentuate her waist, carrying a white clutch for contrast against the black dress. She also paired it with silver platform heels, a silver watch, and black sunglasses.
4. Cutout chill LBD
We love this relaxed look! Pairing your LBD with a black fedora, black slip-on sandals, and black purse is the perfect look for your summer music festivals!
5. Casual work LBD
Adriana created the perfect casual work look, which can also be done with a longer dress! Since she's wearing a short LBD, a normal/oversized denim shirt looks great with it. She still dresses it up a bit with black heels, an oversized leopard print clutch, and gold jewelry.
6. Boho LBD
Pairing your LBD with boho accessories such as a long gold necklace and multiple cuffs will change up the look of the dress. Dani paired it with Jeffrey Campbell heels to dress it up a bit; this is a great look for a night on the town with friends!
